Can I just donate a teddy bear? 

Bear Hugs For Kids does accept a limited amount of new teddy bears.

However, we much prefer that you simply donate $20 
to adopt a bear. (See the "Adopt a Bear" tab).

The reasons for this are:

1)  Hospitals have rules about what we can take in.  A very sick child may need a teddy bear that can go through an autoclave. 
Small children need a bear that meets certain requirements also
for their safety.

2)  When we go into a homeless shelter, we want to give the same thing to all the children so that no one gets a larger or nicer bear than someone else.   We try to keep it uniform.

3)  While we want all of your donation to go directly to the children, there are some costs incurred in transportation, gasoline, and delivery.  We try to minimize those costs as much as possible and get the nicest, sweetest, most huggable teddy bears that we can.
